Affiliate disclosure
Some links on this site earn us a commission. Here is exactly which ones, how much, what it does not change, and how to avoid them entirely if you prefer.
The short version
If you click certain links on this site and then buy or subscribe, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. That revenue helps keep the tools and essays free. It does not influence what we recommend, and we do not accept payment for placement.
Which links
Affiliate links appear only within the body of essays and on the gear guides. Programmes we participate in, or expect to, include:
- Amazon Associates — books, metronomes, and physical accessories.
- Impact — covering Musora properties (Pianote, Guitareo, Drumeo), ArtistWorks, Yousician, and flowkey.
- Musical U — ear training and musicianship membership.
- Hoffman Academy — piano lessons.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Where affiliate links never appear
- Never on a tool page. Tools load with the tool at the top and nothing selling above it.
- Never on a download page. Downloads are direct PDFs, and nothing should slow that click.
- Never more than one per essay. One contextual recommendation, in the body, where it is relevant.
- Never as a banner, pop-up, or sidebar unit.
- Never behind an email capture. Nothing on this site requires your email address.
What the commission does not change
- It does not determine whether a product is recommended.
- It does not determine the order of a list.
- It does not prevent us saying a product is poor value, or that you should buy nothing at all. Several of our gear pages recommend spending less than you expected.
- It does not give the merchant any advance sight of, or input into, what we write.
How to avoid them
If you would rather we did not earn a commission, search for the product by name instead of clicking through, or copy the link text into a new tab. Nothing on this site is withheld from you either way, and the tools and downloads are unaffected.
Advertising
This site also carries display advertising, served programmatically. Advertisers have no editorial involvement. Where ad personalisation involves cookies, the consent controls and the detail of what is collected are set out in our privacy policy.
Regulatory basis
This disclosure is made in line with the US Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides and, for UK and EU readers, the corresponding consumer protection rules on identifying commercial content. A short disclosure also appears at the foot of every page that may contain affiliate links, so that it is visible without needing to find this page.
Questions
If anything here is unclear, or you think a link is inadequately disclosed, tell us via the contact page and we will fix it.
